Berlin Victory Column (Siegessäule)

Friday, January 25, 2019

Hey girl!

Today, I will be bringing you to another popular monument in Berlin. It is called the Victory Column (Siegessäule). When I first went to Berlin, it was one of the attraction that easily got my attention. Not only of the golden statue of Victoria but also it's towering at 51 metres.

It is just 20 minutes from Brandenburger Tor via Tiergarten. In good weather, it was worth to walk around from Tor, to Tiergarten and to Siegelsäule. You can not only see and be mesmerized by the beauty of this angel from afar but also see the panoramic view of Berlin by climbing up to the tower.

The tower has mini-exhibit inside plus the 200 plus steps via steep stairs going up on top. The entrance fee is only 3 euros for a regular adult and 2.50 euros for students. I did take advantage of my student ID while it lasts. There´s a lot to explore in Berlin!

A marathon took place here too. Wow!
A quick history:

There are a lot of meaningful events happened here. I suddenly remembered EDSA looking at this photo.
On the ground floor after the entrance, you will find the mini gallery and different miniatures of popular monuments around the world. I remember on one of our activity in our Deutsch class even before I went here when we were asked what type of business would I like to make. I thought of museum, where almost all the attractions around the world in miniatures. And there, here in Siegelsäule I found it. Haha! I thought my idea was unique, but I got it wrong and we already have it in Berlin.

Here are some of the miniatures inside the gallery. I don´t want to spoil everything. You better visit and see for yourself. It was so cool. It was a good 30 minutes of looking through these miniatures. It makes me inspired to visit more places and discover the world.

After an informative and fascinating gallery, let´s keep moving because there were 250 plus stair steps ahead of us. It was divided in 3 decks so you can rest your feet and fear while climbing up. I am not so afraid of heights, but climbing steep stairs always frightens me. I need a companion to keep up until the top. It was no joke 200 plus steep cemented stairs. But as we always heard, it was worth the climb!

Here is the view from the 1 pit stop in the tower.

Here are some photos on the 2nd stop. I almost quit because the last stop was I guess the steeper and longer. I am actually satisfied with my view right now.

Intricately-designed work of arts.
On top, hello Victoria! After the last step on the stairs, I can finally breathe fully. We are on top!

What a panoramic view! It was Autumn in Berlin 2018. It was a rainy day. By the time, we reached the top, thankfully it was not. We can see at least a little bit clearly the majestic view.

I told you, I am not afraid of heights! Not so much. :) The last stop was the smallest part of the tower. So, to enjoy the full view it needs to be at least less than 10 people around at the same time in this area. It took us not so long to stay here. Maybe a 10-15 minutes stay was actually long enough. Not to mention the 15-20 minutes going up here. It was totally worth to see.

The trees were ready to fall!

Let's talk again on my next blog.
